$4B Oil Refinery to Be Set Up in Missan
The Iraqi Ministry of Oil is planning to build a new oil refinery in Missan province at a cost of $4 million U.S. dollars, Missan’s mayor said on Wednesday.“During the coming few days, the Ministry of Oil will sign a contract for the establishment of a refinery with a capacity of 150,000 barrel per day (bpd),” Adel Mahodar told Aswat al-Iraq, noting that the completion period is 18 months.
“The project will be referred to the cabinet for approval given the high cost of the project,” the mayor explained.
Missan is a Shiite province. Its capital city is al-Amara. Sitting on the Tigris River, Amara lies 390 km south of Baghdad. Missan, in the east of the country, bordering Iran, is home to many marsh Arabs.
